On July 1st, 1986, Chandler Packaging Inc. commenced operations in a 700 square foot space in a commercial complex on Ronson Road in Kearny Mesa. John Chandler and Paul Bremner were the two entrepreneurial partners who had the vision of expanding what had been a packaging and shipping business, Fragile Handle with Care, which was previously owned and operated by Paul.
Chandler and Bremner shared a vision to merge and grow their businesses into a large-scale packaging operation that focused on packaging products and services. Word of mouth quickly spread, excellent customer relationships were forged, and Chandler Packaging was soon providing packaging and custom packaging services for everyone - large defense contractors, small businesses, and members of the public.
In the beginning, business was conducted as the commercial and industrial division of Fragile Handle with Care, which had a recognized name for the previous ten years. The business was later rebranded to Chandler Packaging.
John Chandler recognized that the new business venture would be successful when employees (who previously worked for Chandler at another company) lined up at the door, anxious to again work for him. It also helped that many customers called from day one - following Chandler and staying loyal to the business entity bearing his name.
25 years later, many of the employees who were there in at the beginning are still with the company. Chandler's customer base has continually and steadily grown over the years, and the company now has 3 locations: A 34,000 sq.ft. San Diego location, and two 15,000 sq. ft. buildings in Chino, California and Foley, Alabama.
Today, Chandler Packaging is the largest and most highly respected manufacturer of wood containers in the areas they serve. And in the area of specialized and custom packaging, Chandler Packaging is second to none, as the supplier of choice for many major (and minor) manufacturers across the United States.
The next 25 years will provide the company with many new challenges and opportunities. As in the past, the Chandler Packaging team is ready, to meet the needs of the 21st century packaging and shipping technologies with style, class and ethical practice.
